Description: The purpose of this book is twofold: deal with some areas of synoptic analysis and forecasting that are not covered in currently available texts, or are outdated in some areas, and offer a comprehensive, contemporary text that represents a complete reference for professionals and students. The text covers a large set of topics, with great emphasis on application, about mid-latitude synoptic meteorology.
At the end of each chapter are included review and study questions, problems, references and further reading suggestion. As there are few textbooks that discuss the human forecast process, a particular focus is addressed by chapter 11, that benefits from large input from many current and former members of the professional forecasting community. At the end of the book, a brief chapter on manual analysis is included.
