The book is based on materials on engine accidents in ships of the marine transport and fishing fleet, experience in operating modern types of diesel engines accumulated in recent years in the MMF shipping companies, recommendations from foreign companies and diesel plants, results of scientific research, foreign and domestic publications. The book is the second, completely revised edition of the textbook “Accidents of Marine Internal Combustion Engines” published in 1961. Unlike the previous edition, the main attention is paid to the issues of operation and typical damages of powerful low-speed two-stroke and four-stroke diesel engines, which are most widely used on modern ships of the navy. The description of accidental damage in most cases is given separately as illustrations of the consequences of violating the rules of technical operation or technically unskilled solution of individual issues. The book is intended for engineering and technical workers of the shipping services of shipping companies and departments of the fleet and ship mechanics.
