Al Yarmouk The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) received on January 2 a report that a Libyan-registered oil tanker Al Yarmouk, operated by Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC), had collided with a Singapore-registered bulk carrier Sinar Kapuas in Singapore waters about 11 nautical miles North-East of Pedra Branca. Alyarmouk reported that one of her cargo tanks sustained damage, resulting in spillage of crude oil. Upon notification, MPA deployed a helicopter to assess the situation. Oil spill response resources have also been activated. As part of standard operating procedures for joint oil spill combat in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore, MPA has notified the Malaysian and Indonesian authorities. MPA says that the two vessels involved in the collision are currently safely anchored and in stable condition. MPA has issued navigational broadcasts for ships to navigate with caution when in the vicinity of the incident site. There is no report of injury, and traffic in the port and the Strait of Singapore remains unaffected. MPA is currently investigating the cause of the collision.
