Description:
Match racing is an exciting game in which just two boats race against each other at a time. America's cup, for instance, is a match race between the Defender, of the yacht club that holds the cup, and the Challenger. This text provides racing highlights on boat handling, timing and positioning, as well as the traditional tactics and strategies of fleet racing. Match race improves skills and reaction time, as well as knoweledge of tactical situations. However, match racing involves some tactics and strategies that are not commonly used in fleet racing, particularly at the start, on the downwind legs, and when one of the boats has a penalty.
This handbook describes some of the tactics and strategies that are particular to traditional keelboat match racing. Written by Dave Perry, sailor, racer, US match racing national champion and succesful coach, is published by the prestigious North University in collaboration with US Sailing Association.
